Clinton Morrison has stated that Tottenham forward Son Heung-min is ‘not as we know him’ following South Korea’s 3-2 defeat to Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Monday, as he told BBC Sport.
Tottenham’s flyer on the left went into the tournament having scored in only one game this season and not playing during the last few weeks of the Premier League season because of a facial injury suffered against Marseille in the Champions League.
Combining those two ingredients hasn’t worked well for Son and it proved to be the case with South Korea today because they are facing the possibility of heading out of the World Cup.
And whilst Son did get on the ball in the final third, including attempts on goal, he would either get the ball stuck at his feet or take too long and find his shot being blocked.
Former Republic of Ireland international Morrison spoke about Son’s current situation and his recent performance at the World Cup.
“It takes time and it is a credit for Son Heung-min to even get to the tournament,” said Morrison.
“He is a talisman for them but he is never going to be 100% fit, as he has not played football coming into the tournament. He has looked fairly sharp but not as we know him.”

Tottenham fans would have probably liked the idea of Son going to the World Cup because it would have been a different environment and mindset for the player.
And perhaps it would have helped him find some magic back to his game, bring it back to north London and get back on track.
But, so far, that hasn’t been the case and those first few weeks back to domestic action will be very interesting because if he doesn’t start scoring straightaway, then Antonio Conte will have to place him on the bench.
