Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce has been discussing Arsenal’s deadline day move for Jorginho.
This signing has split opinion within the footballing world. Some believe that Arsenal have made something of a panic signing here as they’ve brought in a 31-year-old who was unwanted by Chelsea.
However, Allardyce is a fan of this signing, naming him as the second-best signing of the January window after Anthony Gordon – describing the signing as a difficult one to do.
Interestingly, Allardyce said that Jorginho will fit in at Arsenal quite easily as he suits Mikel Arteta’s possession-based approach.

Allardyce hails Jorginho signing
The ex-West Ham boss spoke about the addition of Jorginho at Arsenal.
“Yeah, another one because if you want somebody in midfield, Jorginho, to be able to pinch him from Chelsea it’s not an easy task,” Allardyce said,
“The need has obviously been great because they haven’t got Caicedo from Brighton that they wanted. So they have gone for a very experienced European player, across Europe and the Premier League. He can slot into Arsenal’s team quite easily and do what they like doing, which is he definitely keeps the ball.
“He definitely is one of those anchor men who doesn’t give the ball away, sits in the pocket, in front of the back four and keeps the ball moving, keeps it moving forward which is very important for Arsenal at the minute to try and maintain their position.
“What was it £12m? You know, for me, looking at the whole situation, that’s a good one.”
Decent signing
As Allardyce says, this is a very decent signing.
An experienced player with a lot to offer a midfield that is lacking depth, it’s hard to really complain about this one.
Yes, the Gunners could’ve signed a younger, long-term option, but we’re just a few months away from summer where that can be addressed.
