Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has stated that if you ‘stand still’ in the Premier League, then you go backwards, but he added that whilst a club like Newcastle United are doing ‘fantastically well’, it’s also ‘not all about the money’.
Alan Shearer asked Parish whether he is happy at Palace’s current position under Patrick Vieira and he gave it a rating of 7/10, but shared how he wants to ‘redevelop’ Selhurst Park, as he told Amazon Prime Sport.
Added to that, he thinks the Premier League is becoming such a league that it’s going to be split into two – those who are in Europe and those who aren’t.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are teams competing in the Champions League, whilst Arsenal and Manchester United are in the Europa League, with West Ham United in the Europa Conference League.
There is no doubt that Palace, in the long run with Vieira at the helm, will want to reach that goal, but so does Saudi-owned, Newcastle United.
Nonetheless, when Parish was asked by Shearer how he is feeling about Palace’s current position, he stated that he is ‘serially discontent’.
“We need to re-develop the stadium,” said Parish. “If you look at the clubs around us, if you stand still at all, then you go backwards.
“You look at Newcastle. They are doing fantastically well. It’s not all about money. It’s about doing the right things and bringing in the right people.
“I would give 7/10 really (in terms of happiness of where Palace are at). We have got to redevelop the stadium. I think, with the extra places you are seeing in Europe, you are going to get to a point where it’s a two-tier Premier League really.
“The ones who play in Europe and the ones who don’t. If you look, historically, the longevity in the Premier League is linked to your revenue and your revenue outside of your media money, is linked to the size of the stadium, so we have to redevelop the stadium, it’s a must.”

EUROPE THE AIM
In the long run, both Newcastle and Palace will want to be competing in Europe, but it’s easier said than done.
As the Magpies might prove during these coming years, you can build a great team all you want, but if someone comes along with a bag of money, then they might just steam ahead of you.
Those at St James’ Park have a clear advantage over others, the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, with their success since the turn of the century, have proven that.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if, during these coming years, the tide starts to change for certain teams across the Premier League.
