Danny Murphy says it’s ‘not a risk’ if Aston Villa striker Danny Ings decided to secure a loan move to Everton during the January transfer window.

The idea of Ings possibly leaving Aston Villa and joining Everton was put to the former Liverpool man and he backed the idea, but only on a short-term basis given the struggles of Frank Lampard’s side.

On Tuesday night, the Toffees were beaten 4-1 at home by Brighton which pushes the club closer to the Premier League’s relegation zone.

There are issues all over the shop for those on the blue half of Merseyside, and once again, they are in a relegation dogfight.

This is where much-needed experience and know-how has to be brought in this month, with Ings ticking those boxes, that’s if he signs on the dotted line.

Danny Murphy pointed towards Everton’s lack of goals as one of their issues following yesterday’s defeat, as he told talkSPORT on Wednesday morning.

“I think if you watch Everton play, a bit like Wolves, a bit like Southampton and I could probably name another few there,” said Murphy. “When you watch them, you don’t feel like there’s goals in them.

On possible Ings move: “If it’s on loan, then he’s not taking a risk, is he?!”

SHOULD INGS LEAVE VILLA?

Villa signed Ings during the summer of 2021 when they paid Southampton £25 million (Sky Sports) for the striker’s services.

During his time at the Midlands club, he hasn’t exactly set the world alight, scoring 13 goals from his 49 matches.

But this season, despite Steven Gerrard’s sacking and his lack of starts, he has scored five goals from his 16 games and he is a firm back-up to Ollie Watkins.
