Jose Mourinho appears to have thrown Tottenham Hotspur midfieder Dele Alli under the bus during a new Amazon documentary about the North London club.
The ‘All or Nothing’ show is set to air on August 31 and it seems like the no-nonsense Portuguese coach delivered a few home truths during the filming of it, although this exchange came with Daniel Levy rather than the player himself.
In it, Mourinho is reported to have accused the Tottenham star of being ‘not a good trainer’ and revealed that Manchester United icon Sir Alex Ferguson told him to bring the England international to Old Trafford during his time in charge of the Red Devils.
Mourinho is quoted by talkSPORT as saying during the documentary: “I already told Dele very directly that he doesn’t train well, he is not a good trainer. I am not saying a disaster but I am not saying Harry Kane, Harry Kane is a very good trainer.
“Sir Alex Ferguson gave me only one bit of advice in two and a half years: Buy Dele Alli. ‘That guy, with that mentality, the way he plays, the aggression he has in mind. This guy is the Manchester United player. Buy Dele Alli’. And [Ferguson] has an eye for a player. But [Alli] is not a good trainer, we need to find motivation for the guy.”
The Amazon documentary offers fans an intriguing behind-the-scenes look at the Lilywhites and it’ll be fascinating to see what other material is revealed from it.
Knowing Mourinho, there is bound to be a number of box-office moments from the two-time Champions League winner and this criticism of Alli may only be scratching the surface.
