Rio Ferdinand has stated that Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t been a failure and he simply ‘needs time’ at Everton, as he told his own YouTube channel.

At the start of the season, Everton would have been dreaming about securing a Europa League finish, at a minimum.

But with only a few weeks of the season remaining, Everton may miss out on Europe altogether, after an inconsistent season, including producing abject performance after abject performance at home.

Former Manchester United defender, Ferdinand, defended what Ancelotti has done on Merseyside and thinks he’s starting to build a ‘good team’.

“No, not a failure,” said Ferdinand. “I still think he knows that he needs to invest. I think he’s building a very decent team. He’s got a good team.

“His first XI are good. I just think around that he needs to improve and add one or two into that first XI as well.

“I think the investment is the key for them. If he can get investment in that team then I think they are onto a good thing with him.

On claims that Ancelotti has been backed: “Yes, but he needs a couple of windows. He needs a bit more time to build that team.”

Even if Everton miss out on Europe this season, a man of Ancelotti’s qualities and experience needs to be backed.

The Toffees need stability and their trophy-laden coach has provided that, it’s just a case of now trying to progress at a faster rate.

Everton’s home form has hit them hard this season and they have been one of those clubs who have missed those vocal voices from the stands.
