Sporting may be willing to relax on Pedro Porro’s release clause as Tottenham continue to push for his signing. According to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth when speaking to Last Word on Spurs.
Sheth supposedly spoke to a contact in Lisbon who follows Sporting closely, and he claims there is a possibility that Sporting will relax on Porro’s €45m release clause in order to secure a financial windfall from Tottenham amid their own financial issues.
This comes as Tottenham look to strengthen their right wing-back position after poor performances from Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty this season. With third-choice Djed Spence set to leave on loan, Antonio Conte has made it no secret that he wants to bring in a new player to fit his famed 3-4-3 formation.

Porro could be able to leave
Sheth spoke about Porro’s situation.
“Sporting may relax on that release clause. I’m speaking to a contact of mine in Lisbon who follows Sporting Lisbon very closely. He tells me that there is a possibility that Sporting Lisbon will relax on that release clause, it’s not definite, but they may. Simply because the financial situation at Sporting means that it would be in their interest to get this money from Tottenham for Pedro Porro,” Sheth said.
“Now, it’s not a done deal, but it is sounding like there is progress being made on it.”
Smart move
This is a smart move from Sporting, especially when you consider that they could lose the player for a fraction of his value.
Sporting’s decision to potentially relax on Porro’s release clause may be influenced by their own financial situation. With Manchester City having the option to exercise their buy-back clause for Porro at just €20m, Sporting may see the sale to Tottenham as a more financially beneficial option.
According to 90Min, Sporting are very much worried that City will trigger that buy-back clause, and that may well be what has caused the Portuguese club to flinch and let Porro go.
It sounds as though Spurs are close to landing this player.
