Kevin Hatchard has questioned whether Bayer Leverkusen will sell Piero Hincapie to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The German football expert shared how Xabi Alonso’s side have already sold Moussa Diaby to Aston Villa this summer, so ‘they don’t really want to lose anybody big’.

Liverpool are in need of added quality before the 2023 summer transfer window slams shut, with Hatchard describing Piero Hincapie as a ‘really aggressive’ player, as he told Transfer Talk on Sky Sports.

Yes, that win over Newcastle United was epic and possibly season-changing, but it shouldn’t paper over the cracks of the defence being all over the place.

That’s why freshness needs to be added to the midfield and the defence before Friday’s transfer deadline day.

When Hatchard was told about Liverpool’s interest in Hincapie, he stated what type of player he is and why Leverkusen will do everything to keep hold of him.

“Piero Hincapie, he is somebody who is really aggressive and really raw,” said Hatchard. “He affects the game because he plays with such intensity and passion.

“Leverkusen are quite cautious with their transfers. But as soon as they saw him, they wanted to swoop in ahead of everybody else.

“He is somebody who has played a big part in what Leverkusen have done in recent seasons. He is raw and does make mistakes. You expect that from a young defender. He can play left-back and at centre-back.

“I don’t think Leverkusen would want him to go this summer. They have lost Moussa Diaby to Villa. I don’t think they really want to lose anybody big. Not a deal Leverkusen would want to do. I think he would want to go somewhere where he would have a genuine chance to be a regular.”

Big few days ahead for Liverpool

From the future of Mo Salah to the players they do or can’t bring in, this is a big few days for Liverpool and their manager, Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds simply can’t lose more players, especially their star man on the right, so, the Liverpool supporters probably can’t wait for the window to slam shut.

After that win over Newcastle, they face Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Sunday, and if they want an upbeat nature inside Anfield for that match, then things have to go right from now until Friday.
