If Lee Bowyer stuck with Charlton Athletic during the endless instability of the Roland Duchatelet era, it seems unlikely the highly rated manager would walk away from The Valley just as things were starting to head in the right direction, surely?

The Mirror reports West Bromwich Albion have identified one of the Football League’s most promising tacticians as a potential replacement for Slaven Bilic at the Hawthorns.

The straight-talking Croatian might have guided the Baggies back to the Premier League just a few months ago but the pressure, and uncertainty, is building.

Bilic got the rumour mill spinning when he aimed his fury at the West Brom board after Ahmed Hegazi, one of his most experienced players, was loaned to Al Ittihad days after the defender shone in a 0-0 draw with Burnley.

And, according to The Sun, Bilic wasn’t thrilled with the club’s slow progress in the summer transfer window either.

Top target Karlan Grant only arrived on deadline day – four games into the season.

That, coupled with a series of disappointing results including Monday’s 2-0 loss at fellow strugglers Fulham, have left the former West Ham boss teetering over the trap door with Bowyer lined up as his successor.

Not that Charlton fans are worried. Far from it.

Bowyer has turned down offers to leave the Addicks before and, with Duchatelet gone and the likeable Thomas Sandgaard promising to lead Charlton into a bright new era after years in the darkness, the 43-year-old is on to a good thing at the Valley.

“He wants to win games. I want to win games. We are both on the same page,” Bowyer, who has Charlton third in League One with a game in hand, told talkSPORT recently.
