Newcastle United fans have issued a mixed response to Everton sacking Rafa Benitez as manager on Sunday.
After Everton were beaten by Norwich City, Benitez was axed by the Merseyside club, despite only being appointed in the summer.
It was an ill-fated reign for the former Newcastle and Liverpool boss, who was part of the second-ever shortest stint as Toffees manager.
Either way, Benitez’s appointment has got a lot of Newcastle supporters talking and whether or not they would bring him back to St James’ Park.
Some boldly claimed that they would replace him with Eddie Howe, whilst others made it clear that they wouldn’t go near him anymore because they are moving forward with their new Saudi-led ownership.
But others did question whether the highly-experienced Spaniard should come in as Newcastle’s director of football.
The Magpies, who are sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone, are crying out for some footballing people to sit in their boardroom and help guide them forward.
Whilst there were party scenes when Mike Ashley was replaced as Newcastle owner, the lack of footballing experience, if any of it, was pretty evident when the new faces arrived.
Someone like Benitez would do wonders upstairs in the North East, but it would be a surprise if he came into such a role given that he has never held such a position and he’s only just been sacked.
Either way, it would have been interesting if Newcastle would have appointed Benitez, instead of Howe, if he was a free agent when they were searching for Steve Bruce’s replacement.
In truth, it probably seems the better fit, Benitez at Newcastle and Howe at Everton.
But, that’s no longer going to happen as Everton’s search for yet another manager has begun.
