Kevin Campbell has told the Highbury Squad Podcast that he’s ‘not a big fan’ of Granit Xhaka but he thinks he has done ‘pretty well’ for Arsenal of late.

Ever since Mikel Arteta walked through the doors at Colney, Xhaka has been a key member of his starting XI.

Many, many months ago now, Xhaka may have been walking off the Emirates pitch with rage, taking off his Arsenal top with the feeling that his career in North London was at an end.

But Arteta has seemingly brought life back into the £35 million man’s (BBC Sport) game.

Near-on everyone struggled for Arsenal at the start of the season, but Xhaka has been one of a number of players of late who has been proving his worth, as Campbell pointed out.

“Xhaka’s form has been good of late and I am not a big fan of Xhaka,” said Campbell. “But I have to tell it like it is and Xhaka has been doing fine lately.

“I didn’t know where he really went when we were on a bad run earlier on in the season. I didn’t see him much. But the youngsters have dragged the experienced players along. And he’s starting to play better.

“He plays better with Partey. He played better with Ceballos against Leeds and he has done pretty well.”

Whilst Xhaka has shown some form of late, the Xhaka of old has still reared its ugly head during the campaign.

The most notable incident came during Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley in December when he was given his marching orders for shoving Ashley Westwood in the throat.

But whether Xhaka’s in his current form, or raging at Burnley players, he will always be a marmite-figure with Arsenal fans unless he bags a 30-yarder winner against Tottenham in a few weeks.
