As Norwich City face a managerial dilemma, their history suggests that they could make yet another fatal mistake.
To some fans, Alex Neil has been one of the most important managers in Norwich City’s recent history. To others, the Scot has far outstayed his welcome at Carrow Road and many wish to see the back of the 35-year-old. Whatever the case, the record books indicate that Neil may be given a bit too much time to turn things round.
From an outsider’s perspective looking in, it appears as if this particular sacking should have taken place a week or two ago. The second a high quality manager like Gary Rowett goes on the market a club like Norwich need to strike while the iron is hot, but the commitment shown by the board towards Neil is starting to prove fatal.

It’s a rarity in football these days to get such dedicated owners and there’s no shame in that, but in this instance it really does highlight some of the Canaries’ past misdemeanors. Over the last decade or so Adams, Hughton, Grant and Worthington were all given too much time to mend broken fences at Norwich and all four failed to do so.
There’s trusting the abilities of your manager, and then there’s just not seeing the light. Plain and simple. In their last 10 games Norwich have won just two of them and find themselves bottom of the form table, with their promotion hopes taking a knock week in and week out. Neil had his moments, but it’s time to move on to pastures new.
