Norwich City boss Alex Neil has been named Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month after overseeing four victories from five league games, and spoke to Norwich City TV after receiving the award.

Having also led the team to the fourth round of the EFL Cup with an impressive win over Premier League side Everton at Goodison Park, the manager feels they need to make sure their quality comes across in the results for the club.

Speaking to Norwich City TV, Neil said: “It’s recognition of how well the team’s done over the last month, which is nice for everybody involved.

“The scorelines of the games in the month have been quite tight, but the gulf between ourselves and the opposition is probably more than the scorelines suggest.

“We’re now up to second, but disappointingly we didn’t pick up the points we thought we deserved at Newcastle.

“We’ve got a lot to be happy about, however a lot still to work on.”

Norwich lost a nail-biting game at St James’ Park when Newcastle bagged an equaliser and the winning goal in the fifth and sixth minute of injury time to take the match 4-3.

Yet, with that as his only loss this month, Neil saw off competition from Newcastle United’s Rafa Benitez, Sheffield Wednesday’s Carlos Carvahal and Reading’s Jaap Stam to take September’s coveted prize.

The Canaries are heading into the international break just two points off Championship leaders Huddersfield and will return to a winnable string of games against Rotherham, Fulham and Preston North End, all of whom are in the bottom half of the table.
