Norwich City left-back Philip Heise has spoken of his plans to give Daniel Farke food for thought and stake his claim for a first-team spot in the Canaries first-team squad, as reported by Tag24.

The versatile player – who believes he has “a good left foot with free kicks and crosses” (official website) – arrived at Carrow Road in January from German second division side Dynamo Dresden on a three-and-a-half year contract, for a fee reported by Transfermarkt to be £225,000.

Prior to that, Heise played in the Bundesliga at VfB Stuttgart from July 2015 to January 2017, moving from FC Heidenheim where he had a two-year stint, but the 27-year-old has had to bide his time in the yellow and green following his arrival to England.

He had to have a hernia operation following his arrival at the East Anglian club, with his first appearance in the shirt coming in an Under-23s match in March, but now he is hoping to push the likes of Jamal Lewis as the Canaries gear up for their Premier League return.

“I feel the German players really need about six months to arrive in England and settle in,” he said, speaking to Tag24. “Without speaking English you do not get very far here.

“Yes, the transfer was planned for the summer but six weeks after my move I had an operation for a hernia. Of course, the players in the squad who went up have an advantage but I will look to push my claims and wait for my chance.”

Farke admitted in January that Heise would have needed some time to acclimatise to life in England and was surprised that the club was able to acquire his services in the winter as he was originally earmarked for a summer move (official Norwich website).

With the player having had time to get used to his surroundings and make a full recovery, it looks as though everything is heading in the right direction and hopefully he will be able to impress his compatriot in the dugout.
