The Canaries had an open top bus parade after winning the Championship title but things didn’t quite do to plan.

Norwich City celebrated their Championship title win and promotion to the Premier League on Monday but things went off with a little bit of a hitch.

The Canaries, who finished top of the table thanks to their 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday and the following day set about parading the trophy around the city on an open-top bus.

However, the promotion parade vehicle broke down and the players were forced to to ditch the specially-decorated bus for a city sightseeing model with the empty yellow coach trailing behind.

While the club is yet to say what went wrong, a video posted on its Twitter page shows the team coming out of the bus, and some appearing to try and push it from behind, published with the caption: “We may have had some slight bus issues”.

The scenes were comparable to those at the start of the film Mike Bassett: England Manager, where the Norwich parade bus takes a wrong turn onto a dual carriageway as they marked winning the fictional Mr Clutch Cup, and perhaps even a bit Alan Partridge-esque.

Here is how some Norwich fans reacted to the incident on the social media platform:

The celebrations continued later on with a charity match at Carrow Road between two teams featuring current and former Norwich players, watched by nearly 20,000, in which a side led by Wes Hoolahan won 7-4 against an XI captained by Russell Martin.
