The Canaries ace – said to have been on Manchester United’s radar – was key for Daniel Farke’s Championship winners and has now committed to Carrow Road.

A number of Norwich City fans and players have taken to Twitter to express their delight in the announcement that Ben Godfrey has signed a new four-year contract at Carrow Road with a club option for a further year.

The 21-year-old defender has made 42 appearances for the Canaries since joining from York City in January 2016, including 31 during last season’s superb Championship title-winning campaign.

Godfrey broke into Daniel Farke’s team following an injury to fellow centre-back Timm Klose just before Christmas and kept his place alongside captain Christoph Zimmermann for the remainder of the campaign.

The England Under-20 international only signed a new three-year deal at Norwich last summer but has been rewarded for his impressive displays last season amid reported interest in his signature from fellow Premier League outfit Manchester United (The Sun).

“I’m delighted to commit my future to such a great club with ambitions and goals similar to mine in terms of staying at the highest level and I’m looking forward to next season,” Godfrey told the club’s official website.

“There’s only so long you can go without a ball at your feet before you get a little bit bored. I miss the boys, I miss training every day and I miss the atmosphere around the training ground. I’m now looking forward to getting back to working hard.”

Here is how some of the Norwich contingent responded to the news on the social media platform:
