Grant Hanley’s spell at Newcastle United was a big disappointment and the Scot would likely be the first to admit he did not do himself justice.
The centre-back signed for £6 million from Blackburn but failed to establish himself in Rafa Benitez’s starting XI.
Hanley was sold to Norwich City and the defender has revitalised his career.
He was terrific last night as the Canaries held Nottingham Forest to a goalless draw, blunting the threat of talented forward Ben Brereton.
Hanley is still only 26, and he is benefitting from playing regularly.
He has made 25 appearances this season for Norwich since signing and appears to be getting better and better. Last season he was handed just five starts for Newcastle.
Hanley looks a different player to the one at Newcastle, and is showing why the Toon paid £6 million to sign him in the first place.
The Newcastle spell is proving to be the exception for his career rather than a trend, and he deserves credit for getting his career back on track.
