Leeds United and Aston Villa have been tipped to move for Peterborough United talisman Marcus Maddison – but what about Norwich City?

Marcus Maddison wants to try his hand at Championship football next season, as reported by the Peterborough Telegraph. And so he should.

The 23-year-old Peterborough United may be enigmatic, unproven at a level above League One and, at his worst, utterly infuriating. Yet, Maddison is one of the most naturally gifted players outside the top two divisions in English football.

Nine goals and 15 appearances for a Posh side who flattered to deceive is certainly an impressive tally. And, from his Ronaldo-esque knuckleball technique to his ability to fly past defenders with ease, there should be no shortage of Championship clubs tracking the Durham-born attacker’s progress.

Especially now he has only one year remaining on his current deal and, as a consequence, has been placed automatically onto Peterborough’s transfer list.

However, while a huge number of second tier clubs, from Leeds United to Aston Villa, have been linked repeatedly in recent months, you wonder how long it will take for Norwich City to make their interest known.

After all, since the influential Robbie Brady departed in January to become Burnley’s record signing, Norwich have lacked that same threat from dead balls or that touchline-hugging wideman capable of whipping brilliant balls into the path of the grateful Cameron Jerome.

Yanic Wildschut has struggled to settle following his big money January switch from Wigan Athletic while the gifted Josh Murphy is likely to attract attention again after links with Everton earlier in the season (The Mirror).

And now it appears the club are willing to let Steven Naismith leave on a free with two years remaining on his current deal.

Therefore, there may be space in the squad for a new attacker. And, whoever Norwich’s new manager will be, he will surely thank the club for handing him Maddison.
