Norwich’s Jonny Howson will miss two games against his former club.

Norwich City midfielder Jonny Howson has suffered an injury blow which will rule him out of two fixtures against his former club.

Howson will miss up to two months of action, The BBC report, after he underwent ankle surgery.

The immediate problem for Norwich is regarding how they effectively replace the 28-year-old in midweek against Leeds United.

Howson would have hoped to start against the team he once captained, in the EFL Cup clash this week, with a quarter-final place on the line.

The two sides meet a fortnight later in the Championship, another game Howson will miss.

Howson was missing for Norwich’s game against Preston North End at the weekend, a game they lost 1-0, to slip to fourth in the table, having drawn 2-2 with Fulham a week earlier.

The central midfielder had been in impressive form prior to his injury, playing in 11 matches, scoring three times and providing three assists.

While he would have received a warm reception at Elland Road, Leeds fans will be glad he will not be in action this week for Alex Neil’s side, as they bid to see off the Canaries – who won away at Everton in the last round.
