Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley has emerged as a potential signing for Championship side Norwich City.

The Norwich Evening News report Hanley could be brought in to reinforce a backline which shipped four in an embarrassing defeat to Millwall.

Hanley is a Scotland international and former Blackburn captain who Newcastle spent £6 million to sign last summer.

While Newcastle would go on to secure promotion to the Premier League, Hanley barely featured and has not made a top flight appearance for the club yet.

The centre-back did feature in the EFL Cup match against Nottingham Forest, but fans were far from complimentary about his performance in the 3-2 extra-time defeat.

Hanley would be a little of a gamble by Norwich, but they need to sign somebody after their underwhelming start under new manager Daniel Farke.

The Canaries are in 22nd place out of 24 teams with just one win from five matches.

Even despite this, fans are not convinced Hanley is the right answer.
