The report says the Saints have had a ‘£20 million plus’ offer accepted by Norwich City.
He is yet to agree personal terms, and there could yet be further interest from rival Premier League clubs.
For Norwich, letting Maddison leave sooner rather than later has to be for the best, with his departure this summer looking inevitable after a fantastic personal 2017/18.
The team did not match his high levels of performance and failed to mount a play-off push.
It is going to be hard for Maddison to turn down the chance to play in the Premier League, and at Southampton he should have a strong chance of playing regularly, as opposed to say Tottenham, who have also been linked.
Norwich’s players are scheduled to return to pre-season on June 25 and it would be best for the club to have Maddison’s future resolved before then, with attention turning to who the club could sign with the money received.
