The Norwich striker is now on loan at one of Ipswich Town’s Championship relegation rivals, and some Canaries fans like where this is going.
Norwich City have confirmed that Nelson Oliveira has joined fellow Championship side Reading on loan until the end of the season.
The Portugal international, who has played 70 games for the Canaries and scored 20 goals since his 2016 move from Benfica, has not featured at all for the club this season.
Given how well Norwich are doing in the Championship this term and how Oliveira has not been part of Daniel Farke’s plans, the move seems only fair for the 27-year-old, who will also be playing under a fellow countryman in Jose Gomes.
Reading, meanwhile, will benefit from having a high-quality forward in their ranks, and given they are 22nd in the table and two points from safety, it’s a signing that could make a great difference.
“Nelson is a striker who certainly possesses that vital killer instinct,” Gomes told the official Royals website. “He is strong, powerful and technically good with the ball at his feet. And he thrives on scoring goals. So we are delighted he has chosen to join us for the final 18 games of our season.”
Norwich fans will not need reminding that, while they are in the hunt for promotion to the Premier League, their bitter rivals Ipswich Town are rock bottom of the table and seven points adrift of safety, so such a move could potentially have a big say in which three clubs will be in the third tier next term.
