Irvine has emerged as a shock contender to replace Mark Warburton at Ibrox after the former Rangers boss’s departure.

Alan Irvine laughed off the speculation linking him with the vacant Glasgow Rangers manager’s job, according to Norwich City boss Alex Neil.
Irvine, who is Neil’s assistant at Carrow Road, this week emerged as a shock contender to replace Mark Warburton at Ibrox, after the Englishman’s departure earlier this month.
However, Neil is adamant the former Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion boss will not return to his native Scotland any time soon.
“There’s nothing in it,” he said, as quoted by Talksport. “We were talking and laughing about it yesterday.
“Somebody has probably just put a bet on him getting the job and the odds have changed.”
Rangers are seemingly no closer to appointing Warburton’s successor, despite next month’s Old Firm fast approaching.
And Sky Sports reported on Thursday that the Gers’s search for a new director of football has taken precedence, with previous incumbent Frank McParland following Warburton out of Ibrox.
Former assistant boss David Weir also departed with the pair, with all three adamant they did not resign from their posts, as was claimed by the club.
