Steven Gerrard’s Rangers could reportedly miss out on the signing of Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour.
What’s the story?
Rangers are interested in signing Gilmour on loan from Chelsea in the summer transfer window, according to BBC Sport.
The Gers won the Scottish Premiership last season and could play in the Champions League in 2021-22.
If Rangers make it through to the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition, then it will give them an edge over clubs in the Premier League who want the youngster on loan.
That’s according to the report on BBC Sport which has also claimed that Norwich City are leading the race for the Scotland international.
Gilmour actually left Rangers for Chelsea in 2017.
Thomas Tuchel stance
However, The Athletic are reporting that the 20-year-old is likely to compete a season-long loan deal to Norwich next week.
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel favours a move to the Canaries.
Tuchel was the manager of Borussia Dortmund when current Norwich boss Daniel Farke was in charge of the club’s second team.
The two managers know each and have a good relationship.

Rangers or Norwich City?
Of course, Rangers are a massive club, but Norwich will play in the Premier League next season.
If Gilmour plays for the Canaries, then it will allow him to develop in a better domestic league than the Scottish Premiership.
