Everton forward Boris Mathis is out on loan at Northampton Town.
Northampton Town remain in the League One relegation zone after a 1-1 draw with Southend United on Tuesday night, but Boris Mathis caught the eye.
The Cobblers, managed by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, went into the game on a five-game winless run, and the threat of relegation to League Two is looming large.
On Tuesday night, Northampton faced a somewhat daunting task against promotion-chasing Shrewsbury Town, who sit in second place in League One.
Northampton did take the lead though, as Joe Bunney finished off a move which saw Boris Mathis produce great skill and hold up play leading to the goal.
However, after Northampton’s John-Joe O’Toole and Shrewsbury’s Abu Ogogo were sent off, the visitors did claim a point, with Jon Nolan bagging an equaliser.
Northampton sit level on points with 20th placed Oldham Athletic, meaning safety isn’t a million miles away, and they will be hoping for more impressive displays from Mathis to get them away from the drop zone.
Mathis, 20, joined Everton from Metz last summer, and joined Northampton on loan in January for first-team football, with the French forward certainly catching the eye last night.
Northampton fans took to Twitter in order to praise Mathis for a ‘great performance’, suggesting that he will be hugely important in the final weeks of the season whilst backing him to find the net, with his passion and effort earning major praise ahead of his return to Everton this summer.
