Paul Merson and Tim Sherwood have been speaking about Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

The £45,000-a-week man put his name in the spotlight after scoring two goals against Chelsea on Wednesday, as the Gunners won 4-2.

Now, Sherwood has made a very interesting comment about Nketiah.

What’s the story?

Well, Merson was arguing that the 22-year-old is not someone you’d play across 38 Premier League games to get you into the Champions League.

Sherwood then butted in to say “nor was Harry Kane when he first broke through” – which suggests the ex-Spurs boss believes in Nketiah.

Merson then added that Nketiah is someone who should start across the remainder of the current campaign, as he’s the “only natural finisher” Mikel Arteta has.

He has a point.

Presumably, few Arsenal fans believe that the Hale End Academy graduate can carry them throughout the course of an entire campaign.

However, Nketiah hasn’t really been given the chance to do so by Arteta, as the Spaniard has preferred to use Alexandre Lacazette, and previously, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Eddie Nketiah should leave Arsenal

In our view, Nketiah shouldn’t gamble on becoming the new Kane at Arsenal – it’s time for him to shine elsewhere.

The England Under-21 international is too good to be warming the bench every week, and with his contract expiring in June, he has a fantastic opportunity to start afresh at another club.

Crystal Palace are said to be interested, and with the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Wilfried Zaha in attack, Nketiah could thrive under Patrick Vieira in south London.

Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, we hope Nketiah isn’t lulled into staying at the Emirates Stadium.
