Everton fans have taken to Twitter to hit back after Sky Sports posted a tweet asking if Leeds forward Raphinha was the signing of the season.

The Brazilian scored a great freekick last night as Marcelo Bielsa’s side beat Southampton 3-0, prompting plenty of praise to be showered over the winger.

While he has a seriously strong case to be named signing of the season, some Everton fans won’t be giving him their vote, it seems.

A number of Toffees supporters responded to Sky Sports to hit back, suggesting that Ben Godfrey is actually the signing of the season.

One other supporter posted a photo of James Rodriguez instead, to say that they think the Colombia international was the best purchase of the campaign.

To be able to justifiably argue that two of Marcel Brands’ summer additions could be named signing of the season is testament to the Dutchman’s efforts over pre-season.

The recruitment at Goodison Park over the summer was excellent, as other key cogs in Carlo Ancelotti’s machine – such as Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure – also arrived on Merseyside.

Raphinha was an exceptional buy from Leeds, although you can definitely make a case for Rodriguez and Godfrey.

Let’s see what the Everton fans on Twitter were saying in response to the tweet from Sky Sports…
