Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after France Football revealed that Lucas Digne has suffered an ankle injury, and will be sidelined for two months.

France Football state that the former Barcelona full-back suffered the injury in training, with initial medical exams said to be not too encouraging.

Additionally, France Football say that Digne ‘should’ be operated on, although a decision on whether the 27-year-old will go under the knife or not is to be made in the coming days.

This news is a severe blow to the Toffees, as well as the ex-Roma man who was in fine form.

Digne had just recorded two assists in Everton’s 3-2 win against Fulham on Sunday, which took his tally for the season to four assists in eight appearances.

His deliveries from the left, plus his leadership qualities – he is vice-captain under Carlo Ancelotti – have become vital for the Toffees.

If France Football‘s update is accurate, then Digne – who cost £18 million – won’t feature again for Everton until 2021.

While that is sad news, it represents a wonderful opportunity for summer signing Niels Nkounkou to build on some impressive Carabao Cup displays.

Let’s see how the Everton fans on Twitter reacted to France Football‘s update on the left-back…
