You have to feel a bit sorry for Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela.

The Argentina international joined Spurs seven years ago but injuries have often stifled his progression in North London.

And it looks like he has picked up another issue.

Lamela revealed on his Instagram on Friday that he has suffered a foot injury which rules him out of Sunday’s trip to West Bromwich Albion.

It comes at a rotten time for the 28-year-old who has made nine senior appearances under Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho this season.

Considering Mourinho signed Gareth Bale in the summer, and Steven Bergwijn last January, the former Roma star has done remarkably well to play as often as he has done so far.

And some fans of the North London side are upset by his latest injury problem on Twitter.

Here’s how they’re reacting to Lamela’s Instagram update:

This might give Bergwijn a bit of a boost.

The Dutchman is definitely behind Bale in Mourinho’s pecking order, but without Lamela to compete with then the former PSV winger could and should feel extra motivated to impress the Portuguese coach.

Despite an explosive start to life at Tottenham, scoring on his debut against Manchester City, Bergwijn has lost his way this season, starting one Premier League game, and maybe this could bring him out of his shell a little more.
