Arsenal fans are not at all happy that Ainsley Maitland-Niles appears to be heading to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Sky claimed yesterday that Wolves were now in advanced talks with Arsenal over signing the youngster, as they look to strike a £20 million deal.

Arsenal are looking to raise funds for their own incoming additions, and the sale of Maitland-Niles has seemingly been deemed necessary by the club.

But Gunners supporters think that they could be making a mistake letting go of the 22-year-old academy graduate.

Maitland-Niles was initially overlooked by Mikel Arteta when he arrived at Arsenal, but he made a comeback towards the end of the season.

The youngster played in the FA Cup final, and was in fine form, as Arsenal lifted the trophy.

His ability to cover at right-back and in central midfield makes him a valuable player, and he could be a great addition to Wolves’ set-up.

Arsenal may end up regretting letting go of Maitland-Niles if he does go on to fulfil his potential at Molineux, but in the short-term the transfer does make sense.

Arteta needs additions at the back and in midfield, and the sale of Maitland-Niles, who wasn’t a guaranteed starter, should enable him to bring those players in.
