Tottenham Hotspur fans are upset that Gareth Bale may not start against Aston Villa this evening.
Ryan Mason suggested to Football London that Bale may not be fit enough to feature for Spurs later today, as he needs careful management.
At the age of 31, and with a chequered injury history, Bale has struggled to play two games in a week all season.
And it seems that the Tottenham man may not be able to feature from the start again tonight, after playing almost the entirety of Spurs’ game against Wolves at the weekend.
“I am not sure,” Mason said, when asked if Bale would play. “Gareth was probably the best I have seen him all season at the weekend. He was sharp, he was running at players, he has that confidence back of playing in repetitive games and he feels confident in his body. He also knows his body.
“He is a question mark for tomorrow. We are not sure whether or not he is going to be ready. It is down to the player, he is experienced enough. We’ll see.”
That news has not gone down well with Tottenham fans, though, as they were desperate to see Bale in action.
Spurs supporters will finally be allowed back in the ground tonight and it could be their last chance to see Bale in a Tottenham shirt in person.
Bale’s loan spell expires at the end of the season, and it is not yet clear whether the move will be made a long-term one.
The Welshman has proven his ability in recent weeks, since Jose Mourinho’s departure, with Mason picking him regularly.
However, he hasn’t made a consistent impact all season – and given his expensive wages, it remains to be seen if Spurs will feel that they can get better value elsewhere.
