Arsenal fans are convinced that Alexandre Lacazette is going to leave them after Mikel Arteta’s update yesterday.
There has been plenty of speculation around the Arsenal forward this week, with multiple sources saying that he could leave at the end of the season.
And when asked whether Arsenal would keep hold of the Frenchman, Arteta was fairly non-committal on the subject.
He said to the club’s official website: “He’s got a contract with us. He played really well the other week. It’s exactly what we demand him to do. I’m really happy with him and the discussions about his contract will happen soon and we will see what happens.”
“I’m hoping that a player under contract will continue with us. Every case is different and we’re going to assess that and we’ll make a decision in relation to that.”
The comments are in stark contrast to players who Arteta has previously wanted to keep.
The Spaniard has generally been very forthright when stating players that he wants to stay at Arsenal.
And Gunners fans noticed his change in tone when discussing Lacazette here.
If Lacazette does leave Arsenal he won’t necessarily be easy to replace.
The experienced forward is a proven scorer at Premier League level and while he may not currently be a guaranteed starter he is very useful cover.
Arsenal would save a significant amount on his wages if they were to sell him though, and he would also surely fetch a sizeable fee, if he is to be sold.
