Super-agent Minao Raiola has reportedly offered Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester City as an attempt to scare the Netherlands international.
According to CalcioMercato, the Italian football official has offered De Ligt to the likes of City and Chelsea. Raiola is not pleased with the centre-back’s current situation, despite the 22-year-old being a regular for Juventus.
As per the report, the Old Lady are not keen on selling the defender, who has a €150m (£125m) release clause. And it is unlikely that the likes of City and Chelsea will be open to meeting this figure anytime soon.
Whilst De Ligt remains one of the top defenders in world football as well as arguably the best in his age group, City are simply not in the market for a centre-back.
The reigning Premier League champions have started the season in brilliant fashion both offensively and defensively. And Raiola client De Ligt is the last player City should be keen on signing.
With the club still without a replacement for Sergio Aguero, Erling Haaland, another client of Raiola’s, would be a much more realistic signing than De Ligt.
