Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has rubbished speculation suggesting Florian Neuhaus is about to leave for Liverpool, Tottenham or Manchester City, as reported by Tribal Football.
Despite the well-publicised struggles endured by a certain £72 million Chelsea star, a fresh-faced Bundesliga ace who shares Kai Havertz’s effortless, almost ethereal approach to the Beautiful Game is being tipped to follow in his footsteps.
Neuhaus, a central midfielder rather than a scheming number 10, is the bright spark in a somewhat disappointing season for Gladbach.
Six goals and six assists represents a more than respectable return too, with one of those strikes a stunning winner in the 3-2 comeback victory over runaway leaders Bayern Munich before Christmas.
According to Kicker, Neuhaus’s sparkling displays have caught the eye of Liverpool and Man City, while Tottenham are also giving serious consideration to triggering the £36 million release clause in his contract (Sport1).
However, it’s fair to say Eberl isn’t fretting about the potential departure of his 23-year-old Germany international.
“If he will leave the club? With the best will in the world, I can’t imagine it. It’s nonsense, very simple,” Eberl says.
“We are always asked who could leave us and it is a bit disrespectful the way we are treated.”
Gladbach, who will face City in the Champions League last 16 next week, have managed to keep hold of Alassane Plea, Matthias Ginter, Marcus Thuram and co despite incessant speculation in recent transfer windows.
