Celtic fans have taken to Twitter in anger after hearing what the BBC Sport Scotland panel had to say about Kemar Roofe’s challenge on Murray Davidson.

Plenty was said on the studs-up challenge, but there were a few key points made that have infuriated the Celtic fans.

It was said on the Sportscene sofa that Roofe – who cost Rangers £4.5 million – didn’t go into the challenge with any intent.

Additionally, the panel agreed that the ex-Leeds striker was simply trying to shield the ball following an initial poor first touch.

Regardless of whether he meant it or not, it was a horrible, potentially leg-breaking challenge which deserved to merit a red card.

If we were to be fair to Roofe, he does seem to be making an attempt to shield the ball.

Nowadays, a lot of players win freekicks by lunging to ensure their body gets in front of the ball before the opponent can nip in.

However, as Roofe did, some players are too eager to get in between the ball and the opponent, and often lose control.

Despite this fact, it’s a red card every single day of the week.

It doesn’t matter what Roofe was trying to do, or intending to do.

What he did do was place his studs into an opponent’s leg, which he should’ve been dismissed for.

Let’s see what the Celtic fans on Twitter have been saying about the BBC’s comments…
