Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera will not be available against Sunderland on Sunday.

Louis van Gaal has given his pre-match press conference ahead of the tie with Sunderland in the Premier League this Sunday, addressing several issues from transfer rumours to the opening day defeat at the hands of Swansea City.

He was also asked about his most recent acquisition, Marcos Rojo, who joined him at the Manchester United presser this afternoon.

Rojo was the club’s third big signing of the summer, arriving for a fee in the region of £16 million from Sporting Lisbon. His arrival followed the signatures of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw. They arrived at United from Athletic Bilbao and Southampton respectively, for fees of £29 million and £27 million.

Not including the arrival of young goalkeeper Vanka Milinkovic from FK Vojvodina that is the United transfer business this summer, totalling at a handsome price of around £72 million.

And how much of that will be in action this weekend when United take on Sunderland? Not a penny’s worth.

Luke Shaw is out for another three weeks still with a hamstring injury picked up in pre-season. Meanwhile Herrera got hurt in the Swansea game and is also not available. Rojo is fully fit, but as van Gaal confirmed in the press conference today, has not yet received his work permit. He is therefore ineligible meaning that the £72 million worth of talent that United have brought in this summer will not feature at all this Sunday.

However Robin van Persie is fit, in more positive news for the club ahead of a big second game of the season.
