England’s Under-21’s came so close to pulling off a remarkable turnaround on Wednesday evening, but could only beat Croatia 2-1.

With other results going their way, England needed to win 2-0 to advance in the European Championships despite losing their first two group games.

Eberechi Eze scored from the spot to make it 1-0 against Croatia, with Curtis Jones then hammering home what looked like being the goal to send England through.

Domagoj Bradaric had other ideas though, smashing in a last-gasp goal to not only block England’s progression, but also send Croatia through.

There were ugly scenes at the final whistle as Jones and Rhian Brewster reacted angrily to Croatia players celebrating in their faces, with Jones sent off after the full-time whistle.

The 20-year-old Liverpool ace was arguably England’s best performer on the night, but he was only a substitute in the first two games, leaving Reds fans baffled.

The playmaker showed his class last night with a superb finish and a fine all-round display, and whilst Liverpool fans love him, a number of other fans took To Twitter to hail him too.

Fans from Chelsea, Tottenham, Leeds, Cheltenham, Middlesbrough, Reading, Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday all posted tweets about how ‘class’ Jones is, seemingly believing that Liverpool have a huge talent on their hands.
