Everton well and truly hammered Leeds United at Goodison Park this afternoon.
There was interest from Leeds supporters because it was a chance for Marcelo Bielsa to renew his rivalry with Frank Lampard, dating back to his Derby County career and the infamous ‘Spygate’ scandal.
The Rams also eliminated the Elland Road club from the Championship playoffs almost three years ago.
There was no revenge for Bielsa, however, as the Whites slumped to a 3-0 defeat on Merseyside.
Lampard’s outfit led 2-0 at the break after goals from Seamus Coleman and Michael Keane, before Richarlison added a third with 12 minutes remaining.
The Toffees found a lot of joy in the middle of the park at Goodison.
And Clinton Morrison has suggested to Sky Sports News that Robin Koch, Mateusz Klich and Adam Forshaw – who replaced Klich at half-time – were anonymous v Everton, claiming that the Leeds’ midfield was ‘non-existent’ today.
He said: “Leeds midfield I don’t know. They’ve been non-existent today. They just let him [Allan] run and run.”
Even when Forshaw replaced the Poland international at the break, it didn’t do much for United.
The former Middlesbrough midfield is a little more defensive than Klich but even still, major gaps appeared in that part of the pitch and it was a major problem for the West Yorkshire outfit.
Having said that, Everton were excellent and it’s hard to take anything away from them.
From the first minute to the last, they played like they wanted it more and you won’t find a more deserved three points from any Premier League outfit this weekend.
