Gary Neville has claimed that Chelsea’s bench is ‘way ahead’ of Tottenham’s following their recent meeting, as he told Sky Sports.
The former right-back added that ‘the noise coming from Antonio Conte’ is that he wants the club to sign players before the January transfer window slams shut and he gets the impression that the Italian is making reference to ‘multiple’ signings, not just ‘one’.
At this moment in time, Spurs haven’t brought anyone in, even though there is noise around certain individuals who could join them before the winter closes.
On Sunday, Conte brought on the likes of Lucas Moura, Oliver Skipp and Bryan Gil to try and change the game around at Stamford Bridge.
Whilst Thomas Tuchel had the luxury of bringing N’Golo Kante into the affray, not forgetting that the likes of Reece James and Ben Chilwell weren’t even in the squad because of injury.
All in all, this is what Neville had to say about Tottenham’s possible transfer business in the final week of the window and their bench compared to Chelsea’s.
“All the noise coming out from Antonio Conte is that he wants players,” said Neville. “You don’t get the impression that’s one. He wants multiple in the next week.
“If you look at the benches of both teams. Chelsea are way in ahead, in terms of the development of the squad and the quality that they have.”
It seems as though Conte understands that Tottenham aren’t going to go transfer-crazy during this window and most of their work will be done in the summer.
But the impression you also get from the Spurs boss is that he still expects some business to be done this month.
At this moment in time, nothing has been done, but a certain Daniel Levy has been known to do a lot of late business over the years.
It seems as though that might be the case here and when one name arrives, then they will probably be followed up by two or three more.
