Leeds United snatched a late win to beat Sheffield United 1-0 at Bramall Lane this afternoon.
Patrick Bamford scored on 88 minutes to give Leeds their second-successive win in the Premier League, after beating Fulham 4-3 last weekend.
Prior to this Yorkshire derby, both of the Whites’ games on their top-flight return had been seven-goal thrillers, after also losing to Liverpool on the opening day of the season.
But this was a much less-chaotic affair than Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been used to, but the visitors still scraped the victory as Bamford scored for a third-straight game:
Here’s how Noel Whelan reacted to the win on BBC Radio Leeds, singling out the ‘quality’ of Bamford: “I thought we played very, very well in the first half, but in the second half we really took the game to Sheffield United. It took a fantastic goal to separate these two sides – that’s how hard-fought it was – but a bit of quality sealed the deal for Leeds.”
What a season it’s shaping up to be for Bamford.
The former Middlesbrough star, a £10 million signing two years ago, was given major competition this summer when Leeds broke their club record on Rodrigo in a £30 million deal.
But the 27-year-old hitman has responded so well to the Spaniard coming in and three goals in as many games is one hell of a statement to Bielsa.
