Leeds are now top of the league.

Leeds United moved to the top of the Championship with a 2-0 home win over Birmingham.

Samu Saiz scored a first half opener from close range after a Pierre-Michel Lasogga shot was parried, before Stuart Dallas scored a second in injury time.

This was a tougher game than their previous 5-0 win over Burton Albion and Leeds were made to work a lot harder for the three points.

Previous league leaders Cardiff City lost 3-0 to Preston North End meaning Leeds leapfrogged them into first place.

Leeds have now gone five league matches without conceding a goal, a truly impressive record.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan gave his view on the win to BBC Radio Leeds at the final whistle.

He said: “It was a different kind of performance against a different type of team. As a defensive unit we held strong, and were under pressure a lot in second half.

“It was a team performance. There are smiles on the faces and why not, that’s what winning does long may it continue.

“Tonight they had to show a defensive gritty side of the team, and at the end, the sucker punch.

“There was so much heart from this side tonight, a belief they are not going to concede. There was no way there were getting past that White wall.”

After drawing their first two league games of the season 0-0 at Elland Road, the Whites have now scored seven in their past two matches.

Belief is beginning to grow that this could be the season Leeds finally win promotion back to the Premier League.

There are 39 league games remaining, but so far, so good.
