Leeds United missed the chance to establish a six-point cushion at the top of the Championship tonight.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Luton Town at Elland Road.
As a result, Leeds spurned the opportunity to extend their lead over second-placed West Bromwich Albion, who are away to Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night.
The Whites fell behind on 50 minutes but defender Stuart Dallas pulled his side level midway through the second half.
On the whole, it was a disappointing result for Leeds given that the visitors were 23rd in the table before kickoff – and now bottom after Barnsley won earlier today.
Here’s how former United hitman Noel Whelan reacted to the result on BBC West Yorkshire Sport: “They have [made a hash of it]. That shows the frustration of the evening. Chances were there. They really were. This is two points dropped massively.”
It really is a missed chance for the hosts.
Patrick Bamford and Helder Costa both wasted brilliant opportunities in front of goal – the Portuguese’s chance was in the final minutes – and they’ll be thinking of that for a while.
Still, there’s plenty of positives for Bielsa and co, with the West Yorkshire side still six points clear in the automatic promotion spots.
