Leeds won 2-0 v their Yorkshire rivals, Chris Wood scoring twice.
Leeds United have picked up yet another win in the Championship as their march toward a play-off spot continues.
They defeated Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United 3-0 at Elland Road to continue their fine form into the new year. A brace from New Zealand striker Chris Wood and a header from Kyle Bartley proved enough for the home side.
Leeds struggled to get a grip on the game throughout the first-half but eventually they managed to take control of the action and were eventually worthy 3-0 winners against their rivals.
Chris Wood of Leeds United scores their third goal
It was the type of performance that Leeds will need to churn out if they are to continue their promotion push.
Speaking after the game former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds his feelings on the result.
He was pleased to see that Leeds can win, even when not playing their best football – and that in Wood they always have a lethal plan B:
“It’s kind of shown – even when Leeds are not at their best, they can still win three points. They weren’t in sixth gear to begin with but they got there.
“Monk must have told them to stop taking loads of touches, because then the moment’s gone. Wood is over six foot – get it in there. It’s common sense – put it in the right area and people will get on the end of it.
“Wood’s second goal – holding the man off is hard, but then to land on the deck, keep it close to your body and hit it like that.. That’s a special striker, in the form of his life.”

The Kiwi striker has been integral for Leeds this season and his goals today took him to 16 goals in 28 for the club this season.
If he can continue finding the net Leeds will no doubt have high hopes of sticking around in that top six until the end of the season.
