Leeds United need a new striker in January, according to Noel Whelan.
Noel Whelan has reiterated to BBC Radio Leeds the importance of Leeds United finding an “all-in-one package striker” during the January transfer window.
United’s failure to score in their last two Championship games has highlighted the need for a tried-and-tested goalscorer this month.
Kemar Roofe has led the line over the past two months but has only managed four goals since Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s injury on November 4 – and three of those were in one game.
Lasogga is fighting fit again and has made substitute appearances in Leeds’ last four matches to little effect.
Between them, the pair have 12 Championship goals in a combined 37 league outings and you get the feeling that the Whites need a reliable hitman to arrive in the coming weeks.
And former Leeds marksman Whelan has stressed the urgency in regards to finding a complete striker and believes that the Elland Road wouldn’t necessarily have to break the bank to find one.
He told BBC Radio Leeds: “I’ve been saying that since the beginning of the season and I’ve not changed my mind – we need that all-in-one package striker, who’s got a bit of physicality about him, height, good in the air, works the line, pace.
“Yes, I know they cost money, but there are some out there that you can get that won’t mean you breaking the bank.
“But we need somebody who can do that job better because at the moment we’re getting something from Roofe that we’re not getting from Lasogga and we’re getting something from Lasogga that we’re not getting from Roofe.”
