Pablo Hernandez is an important player for Leeds United.
Leeds are aiming to clinch promotion to the Premier League for the 2019-20 campaign via the Championship playoffs.
The West Yorkshire won the first leg of their semi-final playoff 1-0 against Derby County away from home at the Pride Park Stadium at the weekend.
Hernandez, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has been one of the best players for the Whites in the Championship since 2016, and former Leeds striker Whelan believes that he will do the job for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the Premier League as well.
Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds when asked how Hernandez will do in the Premier League: “He has got quality. Championship level, he stands out, of course, he does. I am sure he can do it.
“I am sure he would love to have another crack at the Premier League with Leeds United on the back of a successful playoff campaign.
“He is not the sort of player he would want to get rid of because there’s so much for the young lads that he can teach them.”
Premier League success
Hernandez has previously played in the Premier League with Swansea City, and the Spaniard was successful, too.
The 34-year-old is very creative, and his vision is second to none in the Championship.
The main issue with the Spaniard in the Premier League next season, should Leeds get there, is his age.
The Whites simply cannot rely on him all the time, especially with the pace of the game, and they have to sign a younger creative player who can learn from him and eventually replace him.
