Leeds United picked up an important win over Preston North End to strengthen their play-off hopes in the Championship.
Leeds United’s Robert Green
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan has told BBC Radio Leeds that Rob Green deserves a huge amount of credit for the way he played during the early stages of the Whites’ win over Preston North End on Saturday.
Though the 3-0 scoreline suggests that Garry Monk’s men had everything go their way at Elland Road, it is fair to say that the Lilywhites had their fair share of opportunities to leave Leeds looking to pick up the pieces after a third consecutive defeat.
But due to a combination of excellent saves from Rob Green and some poor finishing from the away side, Leeds were able to capitalise and ensure that they got their play-off charge back on track.
And while the likes of Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez have taken many of the plaudits, Whelan also felt that Green deserved a lot of praise.
“Rob Green has to take huge credit for the first three minutes. He’s got better and better as the season’s gone on – he’s on top of his game,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

Green’s arrival has arguably been proven to be a fantastic piece of business from the Whites, with the former England stopper keeping the team in a number of games when the side have been short of their best.
And as Leeds proved yesterday, those saves can often have a major impact as the team now has the capabilities to take full advantage by quickly going up the other end and finding the back of the net themselves.
