Kalvin Phillips was in action for Leeds United against Birmingham City at Elland Road in the Championship this past weekend.

The 22-year-old started the match as expected to given his important to the team, but head coach Marcelo Bielsa took him off in the 34th minute and brought on winger Stuart Dallas.
Former Leeds striker Whelan does not believe that the youngster will suffer from having been substituted and has prayed his mentality.
Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds after the match when asked what effect the early substitution will have on Phillips: “Nothing. I think he is a strong lad.
“He has a tough character about him, mentally strong. He knows that when the manager makes a decision like that, it’s for the benefit of the team.”

Bouncing back
Phillips’s performance in the opening 34 minutes of the Championship match this past Saturday afternoon was not great.
However, it is hard to see Leeds head coach Bielsa drop the central midfielder for the upcoming game against Sheffield Wednesday given his importance to the team.
Leeds lost to Birmingham in what was their first defeat of the season in the Championship, and the Whites will be determined to bounce back against Wednesday.
