Noel Whelan praised Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier on BBC Radio Leeds (9:56pm, December 5, 2020) for his performance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The former Leeds striker, who now works as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, believes that the 20-year-old Frenchman was “fantastic” against Frank Lampard’s side.

Leeds took an early lead in the Premier League game in London on Saturday evening, but the home team came back strongly and won 3-1.

Whelan said about Meslier on BBC Radio Leeds (9:56pm, December 5, 2020): “It could have (been worse), it could have. He had a fantastic game.”

How did Illan Meslier play against Chelsea?

Meslier has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Leeds and has been playing well in the Premier League this season.

The 20-year-old had yet another very good game between the posts for the Blues and made some wonderful saves.

The French youngster made two quick saves in the second half before Kurt Zouma scored and looked commanding at the back as usual.

Perhaps Meslier could have done better for Olivier Giroud’s goal, but not many goalkeepers would have been able to keep the Frenchman’s effort out.

Leeds matched Chelsea in the first half, but the Blues stepped up their game in the second period and deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.
