Noel Whelan has told BBC Sport that Leeds United were too nice to Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Leeds faced Newcastle at Elland Road in the Championship on Sunday afternoon. Shelvey featured in the game for the Magpies and played for the entire 90 minutes.
The former Liverpool and Swansea City midfielder had a good game and helped Rafael Benitez’s side win 2-0.
Former Leeds striker Whelan was following the match, and he stated that the Garry Monk’s players were too nice to Shelvey.
“I think we’ve been too nice to Shelvey, let him have too much time on the ball,” Whelan told BBC Sport. “We’ve only really rattled him in a tackle once.”
