The Irish international has shown good form since joining Leeds.

Leeds United made plenty of moves in the transfer market this summer, with the latest deal to be concluded coming on deadline day.

Garry Monk, unimpressed by some of his central midfield options, moved to bring in Republic of Ireland international Eunan O’Kane from AFC Bournemouth.

O’Kane has since gone on to become a pivotal player for Leeds – especially since the injury to club captain Liam Bridcutt.

His form, along with the emergence of Kalvin Phillips as a regular option and Ronaldo Vieira, has meant the likes of Luke Murphy and Toumani Diagouraga are not getting a look-in at Elland Road under Monk.

One man who has clearly been very impressed with O’Kane is former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan.

Speaking on his BBC Radio Leeds show last night he had this to say about O’Kane:

“Why (has he impressed me)? Calmness, confidence on the ball, the way he can control a game. He’s got everything that you’d want in a player.

“He works hard going forward, he works hard going back. He’s one of these players that has the experience and knows what positions to put himself in to affect the game.

“His attitude is spot on, his work-rate is spot on, his distribution is spot on. We’ve seen a lot more of him when the time and the space is there driving with the ball and getting forward. He’s been one of the most consistent players for Leeds United since he signed.”

High praise indeed and certainly deserved from the new Leeds star. His consistent displays in the middle of the park have been key to Leeds’ recent success and when Bridcutt is back fit the pair should form a dynamic midfield duo to rival the best in the league.

Hopefully today O’Kane can help inspire Leeds to a victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
